Betty read about Eastern Volunteers in the local newspaper and rang to discuss what she could do to obtain some experience in the retail area.

Betty was invited by Sarah to come in for an interview. However, Betty indicated that this would be difficult, so Sarah conducted a phone interview. Betty said she would be interested in volunteering at an opportunity shop. After obtaining the necessary information from Betty for Eastern Volunteers's volunteer application form Sarah provided details of opportunity shops in Betty's area that would enable her to gain retail experience. Betty was delighted and was keen to make contact with the manager. Betty thought this would be an ideal way of gaining vital work experience.

With the follow-up call it was established that Betty had obtained part time work at a local clothes store and found the skills she gained at the opportunity shop were instrumental in getting paid work.
