March Business Booster Breakfast with Tarnya McKenzie

The Eastern Volunteers Business Booster Breakfasts aim to connect businesses and the community, while providing informative speakers who discuss topics essential to ongoing business success.

The Business Booster Breakfasts return for 2012 featuring Tarnya McKenzie from Yarra Valley Water.

The Business Booster Breakfast will be held on Wednesday 28th March from 7.30 am at Club Kilysth, Corner Colchester and Canterbury Roads, Bayswater North.

Cost is $35 per person or $110 for a table of four.

Tarnya McKenzie, Manager, Marketing and Communications, at Yarra Valley Water

Tarnya McKenzie is responsible for community marketing programs, sponsorship, community engagement, corporate publications, media functions, stakeholder management and customer and strategic communications at Yarra Valley Water, the largest water retailer in the city of Melbourne, serving a population of 1.6M with water and wastewater services.

Prior to her current position, Tarnya has held numerous Senior Management roles at Yarra Valley Water including, Manager, New Business, Manager, Customer Contact Centre, and Manager, Financial Planning and Treasury.

Prior to joining Yarra Valley Water in 2001 Tarnya worked for Norhtcote Skillshare and the Royal Children’s Hospital. In 2010 Tarnya was appointed to the Board of Special Olympics Victoria and later that year took on the role of Treasurer.

Tarnya holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.

Fun Run and Walk—Sunday 18 March 2012

          

Got a spring in your step? Want some light exercise? Chance to stretch the legs?  Then Sunday 18 March is the day for you — it’s Take on the Lake time again! Eastern Volunteers is staging its 12th consecutive Fun Run & Walk at Lillydale Lake. It’s a community event and everybody’s welcome.

The 2012 Eastern Volunteers Annual Fun Run will be held on the 18th of March.

There’s a 3.8km walk and two runs, 3.8 and 7.6km. Which really means one or two spins on the paths around beautiful Lillydale Lake (download a map). What better way to burn off that Sunday breakfast?  You can enter as an individual, a family or, NEW FOR 2012, start or join a TEAM.  It’s even more fun with friends!

There are trophies and prizes for first-across-the-line in a host of age-based divisions.

How much?
We’ve kept prices low (same as 2011) so everyone can take part.  Register by 14th March and pay only $10/adult, $5/child (under 18) and $25/family (up to 2 adults and 5 children).  Registration fees at Lillydale Lake are a little more:  $12/adult, $6/child and $30/family. Team fees are $8 per team member, regardless of age, with a minimum four members in a team.

Early Bird Registration has now closed but its not too late to Take on the Lake!  Registration opens at Lillydale Lake on Sunday 18 March from 7.30am.

The Fun Run begins at 9am and walkers will commence at 9.05am.

Entry fees are not refundable.  EVRC reserves the right to cancel the event if there is a threat of extreme weather conditions.

Ringwood Golf Club – Charity Day

The Ringwood Golf Club has generously offered to raise funds for Eastern Volunteers through its Charity Golf Day. The Charity Golf Day will be held on the 18th of November at Ringwood Golf Course. A team of two can be registered for $250 and a team of four for $500.

Simon McKeon is the 2011 Australian of the Year

Simon McKeon is the 2011 Australian of the Year

Simon is Executive Chairman of Macquarie Group’s Melbourne office, as well as Chairman of CSIRO and Business for Millennium Development.

Simon has degrees in Law and Commerce from the University of Melbourne and prior to joining Macquarie, practised as a solicitor with Blake Dawson Waldron in Sydney. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and also of FINSIA.

In 2010, Simon was appointed by the Federal Government as the Chairman of CSIRO.

He is an Australia Day Ambassador for the Victorian Government.

He is Chairman of Business for Millennium Development which is focussed on encouraging business to pursue opportunities in the developing world. He also serves on the Board of Red Dust Role Models which connects well known Australians with indigenous youth.

Simon is a member of the Big Issue Advisory Board and served on the Advisory Board for Melbourne’s successful tender for the 2008 Homeless World Cup. He has also been Chairman of Essendon Football Club’s Hutchison Foundation and Patron of Melbourne’s successful tender for the 2009 World Parliament of Religions.

He is a Director of the Global Poverty Project which is responsible for the “1.4 Billion Reasons” campaign.

Simon also previously served as Founding President of the Federal Government’s Australian Takeovers Panel, Founding Chairman of MS Research Australia and Founding President of the Federal Government’s Point Nepean Community Trust.

Simon is the helmsman of Macquarie Innovation which in March 2009 became the first sailboat in the world to sustain more than 50 knots and in so doing, peaked at a speed of 100 kmh (54 knots).

Simon is a Patron of the Australian Olympic Sailing Team which won 2 gold and a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The Business Community Catalyst Website

The Business Booster Breakfast will coincide the launch of the new Business Community Catalyst website. This free web resource will assist in creating mutually valuable partnerships between community organisations and businesses.

The website features a diverse range of community organisations that are committed to delivering value to prospective business partners.

Businesses are able to search for partnership opportunities and work with these community organisations through volunteering, sponsorships or provide specialised expertise. Further ideas for partnerships are also available on the website.

The Community Business Catalyst Website is a partnership between Maroondah City Council, Eastern Volunteers, Irabina, Melba Support Service and Monkami.

2011 Annual General Meeting

The 2011 Eastern Volunteers Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday the 21st of October from 11am at the Ringwood RSL Function Room, 16 Station Street in Ringwood.

The Meeting will be followed by a light luncheon, concluding at 1.00 pm
