Connecting Business With the Community

Eastern Volunteers is pleased to announce our Business Booster Breakfast Series for 2011. These breakfasts create the opportunity to learn from dynamic, inspiring speakers about practical ways that businesses can partner with the community sector for mutual benefits.

“The first Eastern Volunteers Business Booster Breakfast was held last year and received such a positive response that a series of three Breakfasts are planned for this year”, Eastern Volunteers Manager of Marketing Services Alex Makin said. “The Bendigo Community Bank and Jefferson Ford are joining Eastern Volunteers to build up the community through these events.”

The Eastern Volunteers Business Booster Breakfasts are supported by the Bendigo Community Bank Branches of Ringwood East, Mooroolbark and Mount Evelyn, as well as Jefferson Ford and Club Kilsyth.

“The Business Booster Breakfasts will foster partnerships between the business sector and community organisations,” Mr Makin said. “The May Breakfast will feature Greg Fordham, Managing Director of Airbiz who as part of regular teambuilding initiatives holds workshop providing working bees that support community organisations”.

Greg Fordham has over 25 years experience in the aviation industry. Greg has developed a team of consultants that have undertaken over 2,000 projects and studies in 40 countries, on five continents.

“The Business Boost Breakfast is designed to strengthen the capacity of the community and business sectors supporting mutually beneficial partnerships,” concluded Mr Makin.

Outstanding Volunteers Recognised

Eastern Volunteers has recognised International Volunteers Day by awarding Certificates to volunteers for their outstanding leadership, passion and commitment throughout 2010.

“International Volunteers Day is held to thank and recognise the dedication of volunteers within the community, both at a local level and more broadly,” Eastern Volunteers Manager of Marketing Services Alex Makin said. “Eastern Volunteers has over 100 volunteers that assist us in the delivery of services and this year we recognised the outstanding dedication of two volunteers, Patrick Franscisco and Elke Barbian for their passion, leadership and commitment.”

International Volunteers Day is a UN sanctioned day of international observance held on the 5th of December each year to acknowledge and thank the efforts of volunteers.

Elke Barbian and Patrick Franciso were awarded Certificates of Appreciation for outstanding services in leadership, commitment and loyalty. Patrick and Elke were involved in several Eastern Volunteers events, including the Multicultural Spring Festival, Regional Conference, Garage Sale and Fun Run.

“The leadership and dedication of Patrick and Elke is inspirational and demonstrates how volunteers can make a real difference in our community”, Mr Makin said. “The Multicultural Spring Festival was Maroondah’s first large-scale multicultural festival, which attracted over 5000 attendees. Patrick and Elke were crucial in planning this event and ensuring that it was a community success.”

“Volunteering strengthens our community spirit and ensures that people can make a real difference to their community. Eastern Volunteers congratulates Patrick and Elke and we welcome any new volunteers who would like to be a part of Eastern Volunteers throughout 2011,” Mr Makin concluded.

Donation based gift wrapping by Eastern Volunteers

Eastern Volunteers is partnering with Eastland Shopping Centre to provide a donation based gift wrapping service between the 6th and 24th of December.

“We are seeking volunteers to assist in promoting the festive spirit through a gift wrapping service in partnership with Eastland,” Eastern Volunteers Manager of Marketing Services Alex Makin said.

Eastland Shopping Centre provides an annual donation based gift wrapping service, with proceeds being provided to a nominated community organisation. This year Eastland has partnered with Eastern Volunteers to deliver the gift wrapping service.

“Amateur gift wrappers need not fear, with training being provided courtesy of Eastland”, Mr Makin said. “We need volunteers to fill shifts throughout December and we encourage the community to get involved and help spread the festive spirit, while assisting Eastern Volunteers in delivering our great work into the community”.

Eastern Volunteers is increasingly reliant on fundraising to deliver its community services, which have seen ongoing growth, including a 30% increase in demand over the past year. The service, provided between the 6th and 24th of December, will provide wrapping of gifts for a donation from shoppers.

“Please join us during the festive season in providing this gift wrapping service while supporting Eastern Volunteers and the work we undertake in the community,” Mr Makin concluded.

Multicultural Spring Festival an Overwhelming Celebration of Community and Culture

Approximately 5000 community members attended the Eastern Volunteers Multicultural Spring Festival, experiencing a celebration of cultures at the first large scale multicultural event within Maroondah.

“The Eastern Volunteers Multicultural Spring Festival celebrated the cultural diversity of our community featuring a range of entertainment, food and crafts,” Eastern Volunteers Manager of Marketing Services Alex Makin said. “It was fantastic to see so many members of our community attend the festival, with approximately 5000 in attendance”.

Eastern Volunteers held the Multicultural Spring Festival on the 9th of October at Ringwood Lake. The festival included food, crafts, musical acts, performances and rides providing entertainment for all members of the community.

“The festival was an overwhelming success showcasing a diverse range of cultures, including dance groups from Burma, African Drummers and Bollywood Dancing”, Mr Makin said. “Many hours of preparation from volunteers and staff ensured the Festival was a success and this is a great example of the positive work volunteers can undertake in the community”.

The Eastern Volunteers Multicultural Spring Festival was proudly supported by Power Balance, Maroondah City Council, Ringwood Honda, Stockdale & Leggo, the Bendigo Bank and the Victorian Multicultural Commission.

“Sponsorship was the other critical factor in the Festival’s success and we would like to thank the sponsors who supported this event. The Multicultural Spring Festival was Eastern Volunteers’ largest undertaking and it was fantastic to see the community, volunteers and sponsors all coming together to make it an overwhelming success,” Mr Makin concluded.
